Horror films are designed to frighten and panic, to invoke our hidden worst fears, often in a terrifying, shocking finale. The earliest horror films were Gothic in style - that means that they were usually set in spooky old mansions, castles, dark and shadowy locales.
The main character of these films were the "unknown", human, supernatural creatures like vampires, devils, ghosts, monsters, demons, evil spirits, werewolves to the unseen presence of evil. The first horror movie, was only about two minutes long created by the French filmmaker Georges Melies "The Devil's Castle"(Le Manoir du Diable) (1896) which contained some elements of later vampire films.
The most influential of the early films was "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari"(Das Kabinet des Doktor Cligari) (1919) the Germany's silent expressionistic landmark classic. IN the early 1900's the German film Der Golem was the first horror-themed film which achieved great success. In the early 1930's Universal Studios created a modern film genre and brought to the screen the successful movies like "Dracula", "Frankenstein" and "The Mummy".
In the late 50's horror movies became a lot gorier as the technical side of cinematography became cheaper. Early 60's saw the release of two films which close the gap between the subject and the viewer. One was "Peeping Tom" and the other was "Psycho", both films rather use human monsters rather than supernatural ones to scare the audience.
"The Exorcist" (1973) broke all records for a horror film, after that in 1975 "Jaws" became the highest grossing film ever. Horror movies turned to self-mocking irony and downright parody in the 1990's when the teenagers in "Scream" often made a reference to the history of horror movies.
There is argument that horror films are socially and morally irresponsible, and they even influence to some people to imitate the brutal methods of the killers portrayed on the screen.
Anyway horror films have the opposite effect on normal people - sick minds will commit crimes anyway. When we watch horror films we encounter our secret fears, share them with other viewers and eliminate the terror by facing with it.
But if you are not a movie lover or maybe you are too scared to watch a horror movie then maybe I have the right solution for you. Why do not you turn your computer on and look for some scary games on line?
Trust me you will be amazed by what you will found. There are a lots of games from creepy, horror, scary to those which are not too much scary. So choose the right one for you and enjoy playing it.
Or if you are a film lover than go ahead and take a troll through these favorite films of all time. If happens to you to hear sounds like whispering, or creepy sounds, just pay no attention to it. It is probably just the wind.

Top Horror Movies, Ghost Movies
Personally I love being scared silly and a spine tingling ghost movie works for me. Of all the top horror movies genre out there like; vampires, zombies, killer tomatoes, the eerie, transparent ghoul that is floating around the room and whispering warnings to you in the dark, ghost movies are the best!
The love for a good ghost movie came about for me at a tender young age...thanks to two cousins!
It was a crisp fall day when I, at an impressionable age of eight or nine was dropped off at my grandparent's farm for a weekend stay.
My bratty two older cousins were staying there also. For sleeping, the three of us shared two feather mattress beds in the open basement of the old farmhouse.
That was where I experienced my first ghost story. In the silent darkness my cousins told me a spine tingling story that "actually" happened not too far away. A tale worthy of being one of the top horror movies ever. They began in detail, a story about a kid, my age, getting his head chopped in half with an ax by his crazy grandfather. The poor ghoulish kid with half a bloody head now roams the countryside.
I never slept a wink that night. In fact it was a good while before I slept at my grandparent's farmhouse again.
Halloween is near, enough of the vampire genre! That is why this article is about the eeriest, scariest ghost movies, twelve of them! Put in chronological order from oldest to newest and worth watching in this order. Notice how the older ghost movies were remade.
1) The Uninvited (1944)

Eccentric multimillionaire and his wife invite five unrelated strangers to a huge, isolated mansion. They offer 10,000 dollars to each guest if they make it through the night (12 hours). All five arrive by hearse and in the morning all five will be leaving by hearse, one-way or the other.
Starring: Vincent Price, Carol Ohmart, Richard Long.
The new 1999 movie has the same story line, slightly altered like one million dollars instead of 10,000 and of course better special effects.
Starring: Geoffrey Rush, Famke Janssen, Taye Diggs, Chris Katten.
3) 13 Ghosts (1960) Out of all the top horror movies this ghost movie is one of the best. Uncle Zorba, an occultist, wills a huge unusual house to his needy nephew Cyrus and his family. This house came with three surprises; treasure, thirteen ghosts and special goggles to see these ghosts.
Starring: Charles Herbert, Donald Woods, Jo Morrow.
2001 version has the same story line, with creative well done effects and Cyrus is the uncle's name.
Starring: Tony Shalhoub, Shannon Elizabeth, F. Murray Abraham.
4) Carnival Of Souls (1962)
A ghostly man appears through mirrors at first only to an innocent church organist. Did someone or something at the deserted carnival prompt this ghoulish image which keeps appearing to this poor girl? Even though this is a low budget movie it still merits a decent level on the fright meter.
Starring: Candace Hilligoss, Frances Feist, Sidney Berger.
1998 version was much more brutal with a not so funny circus clown.
Starring: Bobbie Phillips, Shawnee Smith.
5) The Haunting (1963)
An old mansion called Hill House gives paranormal proof to Dr. Markway and his invited guests. The good story line made this a spooky movie.
Starring: Julie Harris, Richard Johnson, Claire Bloom.
1999 movie has the same story line only its Dr. Marrow, a high standard cast and great movie magic.
Starring: Liam Neeson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Owen Wilson, Lili Taylor.
6) The Fog (1980)
One hundred years ago a ship carrying lepers purposely crashed drowning all on board. Now the ghoulish lepers are back for revenge and coming through the fog. John Carpenter can certainly put together a great ghost movie, not only once but twice.
Starring: Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, John Houseman.
2005- Very similar to the 1980 version but with better effects. Mr. Carpenter has also become more successful in the last twenty five years.
Starring: Tom Welling, Maggie Grace, Selma Blair.
7) Witchboard (1986)
College students start playing with an Ouija board that becomes evil. Meanwhile they were all thinking it was the spirit of a nice ten year old boy.
Starring: Todd Allen, Tawny Kitaen, Clare Bristol.
8) The Sixth Sense (1999)
In this subtle ghost movie, nine-year old Cole Sear can see, hear and talk to dead people right after they pass on. Dr. Crowe, a child psychologist tries to help Cole with these...hallucinations. I love movies that have a good twist ending and this is one of them. Definitely one of the top horror movies.
Starring: Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Collette.
9) The St. Francisville Experiment (1999)
In a little town in Louisianna is a known haunted house. The house is haunted by the ghosts of slaves who died enduring horrible torture.Four people are unprepared for the horrors that are about to occur.
Starring: Tim Baldini, Madison Charap, Paul Palmer.
10) What Lies Beneath (2000)
The wife of an university scientist begins to see apparitions. Her husband thinks that she is nuts until he sees the images for himself. Now, they must both uncover the truth and find out what lies beneath.
Starring: Michelle Pfeiffer, Katharine Towne, James Remar.
11) Ghost Ship (2002)
This is a 'better get ready to hang on to something' ghost movie. I would consider this as one of the top horror movies. A 1962 elite passenger ship was suddenly found floating adrift by a salvage crew, forty years later. Old, rusted, deserted, full of gold and ghosts.
Starring: Gabriel Byrne, Julianna Margulies, Ron Eldard, Isaiah Washington.
12) The Ring (2002)
A strange video tape with eerie footage that seems to kill the viewer in seven days. Seconds after the video ends, a phone call, one week later you die a horrible death. Originally a 1998 Japanese film called 'Ringu". I had to add this flick to the top horror movies list.
Starring: Naomi Watts, Martin Henderson, David Dorfman, Jane Alexander.
You want to be frightened this Halloween season? My recommendation for a great scary ghost movie is any one of these twelve films. They are all worthy to be on the 'top horror movies' list.
So after the costumed kids are done ringing your doorbell and threatening you for treats, grab a pillow to hang on to, turn off all the lights and put on one of these scary movies. Great way to end Halloween.

It's a name that will forever be synonymous with DVD rental, and Blockbuster wisely chose to branch out into an online service in 2002. Online DVD rental from Blockbuster has developed significantly, and the introduction of a subscription service in 2004 greatly improved the service.
Blockbuster online is home to around 65,000 titles, which is pretty impressive, and there are plenty of pre-owned games and movies to purchase for a ridiculously low price. Whilst the website is not overly pleasing in an aesthetic sense, it does the job and is user-friendly. The Blockbuster Blog is reasonably informative and entertaining, although the format looks a little rushed.
Blockbuster customers can enjoy a fairly swift DVD turnaround thanks to 1st class postage, but this is still a lot slower than going into a store and picking the latest non-linear bloodbath from Tarantino off the shelf. A Guy's List of the Best Horror Films in Recent Years
A lot of people are not fans of horror movies. Violence, squeamish material, possessed people, zombies, ghosts and suspenseful moments turn them off. I am not one of these people. After taking a class in college on horror movies, I began to love them.
If you are looking to get into horror movies it is tough to sift through all the bad ones. Here are some scary movies that are worth seeing.
If you have never seen the first Saw movie, you may find it enjoyable whether or not you are a fan of horror films. Sure, you may have to look away a few times due to excessive gore, but anyone can appreciate the plot line and twists of this movie. Put it this way, there is a reason it has had 6 sequels made.
Another great horror film that was the surprise hit of 2009 was paranormal activity. Recorded in the first person point of view, using only a camcorder, this film supposedly had a $15,000 budget and grossed over $100 million. Not too bad huh? The sequel comes out later this year.
While it achieved very little acclaim at the box office, I thoroughly enjoyed Zombieland. Starring Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg, Zombieland came out in 2009 and was both scary and hilarious. Now this is a great movie for someone who does not like horror movies to watch. Woody keeps it funny while the zombies provide enough gore to satisfy horror fans.
The Descent is another movie that may not have necessarily done well at the box office, but still achieved somewhat of a cult following after it was put on DVD. This movie truly made me uncomfortable and combines elements of gore and claustrophobia.
The best horror movie that I have seen in recent memory is Drag Me To Hell. This is a great movie for someone who is not a fan of horror movies to see as well. It is over the top, funny, jump out scary and has a familiar face in Justin Long. It is good to know that Sam Raimi is no longer tied to the dwindling Spider-man franchise, because now he can get back to what he does best; make scary movies.
These are just some of the ones that are currently jumping out at me, but there are certainly more that are worth seeing. This is a good start though.

Keiko, Mizushima's girl friend, sees the two on the school rooftop kissing and in a state of hysteria, attempts to throw Monami off the roof but falls off herself instead.
Keiko dies but her father, Kenji Furano, the mad scientist, resurrects her as Franken girl. Thus begins a deadly combat between Franken Keiko and Vampire Monami in the name of love.

Winner of Un Certain regard at Cannes A mother and father, desperate to shelter their three children from the outside world, create a self styled utopia inside the walls of their secluded compound. The three children have never ventured outside and spend their days being educated and entertained within the limits of a strict and suppressive system concocted by their father. So far removed are they from the real world, they have their own vocabulary and believe cats to be dangerous wild man eating predators, aeroplanes flying overhead to be toys and small yellow flowers to be zombies. When the father invites a trusted outsider into their home to service his son's sexual urges, the domestic balance is disturbed and the protective bubble surrounding their lives soon implodes.
Biting satire
A word of warning - Dogtooth is a rather disturbing film resting on an uneasy mixture of comedy, satire and surrealism that is likely to provoke incomprehension and revulsion in the viewer over the course of its rather unsettling 90-odd minutes. So don't go there unless you want to be shaken up a little. Then again, that's precisely the aim of the film, to get you out of your comfort zone and confront a few unpleasant truths, and Greek director Giorgos Lanthimos ensures that there is plenty given here to think about.
The target of the film's satire isn't too difficult to identify as being that of the family unit and particularly the damage that can be inflicted upon it when the heads of the evidently dysfunctional family are shown to be somewhat disturbed individuals. Whether they belong to some kind of religious cult is never quite made clear, but the mother and father certainly entertain some unusual ideas about how to bring-up their three children, a boy and two girls of young adult age. The limitations need not necessarily even be that of some government, religious organisation or sinister authority, but rather, conditioned by years of tradition, superstition, religious beliefs and a tendency not to look too far beyond our own doorsteps, those fears of the unknown can come from within, causing a distortion of the truth and reality that can have a profound effect on society as a whole.
Such considerations are likely to come to mind much later after watching the film since they are not explored directly within the film itself. Dogtooth rather necessarily keeps within its own hermetic little universe of this particularly dysfunctional family and carries its activities through to their inevitably disturbing conclusions, but so effectively does it keep the viewer held within its twisted little view of the world, that emerging from it will inevitably lead us to consider the wider implications of our conventional view of reality.
Winner of Un Certain regard at Cannes A mother and father, desperate to shelter their three children from the outside world, create a self styled utopia inside the walls of their secluded compound. The three children have never ventured outside and spend their days being educated and entertained within the limits of a strict and suppressive system concocted by their father. So far removed are they from the real world, they have their own vocabulary and believe cats to be dangerous wild man eating predators, aeroplanes flying overhead to be toys and small yellow flowers to be zombies. When the father invites a trusted outsider into their home to service his son's sexual urges, the domestic balance is disturbed and the protective bubble surrounding their lives soon implodes.
Biting satire
A word of warning - Dogtooth is a rather disturbing film resting on an uneasy mixture of comedy, satire and surrealism that is likely to provoke incomprehension and revulsion in the viewer over the course of its rather unsettling 90-odd minutes. So don't go there unless you want to be shaken up a little. Then again, that's precisely the aim of the film, to get you out of your comfort zone and confront a few unpleasant truths, and Greek director Giorgos Lanthimos ensures that there is plenty given here to think about.
The target of the film's satire isn't too difficult to identify as being that of the family unit and particularly the damage that can be inflicted upon it when the heads of the evidently dysfunctional family are shown to be somewhat disturbed individuals. Whether they belong to some kind of religious cult is never quite made clear, but the mother and father certainly entertain some unusual ideas about how to bring-up their three children, a boy and two girls of young adult age. I enjoy renting my movies online, which is why I've put together this list of new releases at Blockbuster. A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) - The legendary slasher franchise gets a reboot courtesy of the guys from Platinum Dunes. When teens in the town of Springwood begin to die one by one, they discover a disturbing secret that goes all the way back their childhoods. Meanwhile, the disfigured Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) stalks them in their dreams with lethal intent.
The Karate Kid (2010) - This remake of the '80s classic stars Jaden Smith (son of Will and Jada) as a 12-year-old who moves with his mother from Detroit to Beijing, China. Small and totally out of place, he soon becomes the target of bullies. But all that changes when he meets maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) and begins to learn kung fu.
Splice (2010) - A pair of scientists (Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley) blend human DNA with that of other animals, and they soon bring a new lifeform into the world. Given the name Dren ("nerd" backwards), the curious new species grows at a rapid rate and soon begins to demonstrate an unhealthy interest in human sexuality. Chaos and death ensue.
30 Days of Night: Dark Days (2010) - A sequel to the 2007 horror flick 30 Days of Night, this direct-to-DVD film is also adapted from the comic book series by Steve Niles. A year after the brutal vampire attack on Barrow, Alaska, a widowed survivor named Stella (now played by Mia Kirshner) joins a group of hunters in order to get revenge on the bloodsucking fiends responsible.
The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2010) - A mad German doctor (Dieter Laser) has an obsession with joining creatures and making them share a single digestive system. After he kidnaps two American girls and a Japanese tourist, he gets to work on his latest experiment. The three unlucky victims are connected mouth-to-anus in an unspeakable mockery of a centipede. As the doctor tries to get them to perform tricks, the desperate trio must seek to escape. Highly disturbing, although much of the most graphic content occurs off-camera.
The Secret of Kells (2009) - An animated tale set in the ninth century, the film would receive a 2010 Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature. As Viking raiders threaten the land, a young Irish boy (voice of Evan McGuire) must help a master artist complete an elaborate book. But to do so, he'll have to face his own fears, not to mention an evil snake god. Luckily, he gets help from a pale faerie spirit named Aisling (Christen Mooney). Drawing heavily from Celtic mythology, it's been called "one of the greatest hand drawn independent animated movies of all time."
Frozen (2010) - While trying to get in some extra skiing before a snowstorm hits, three friends (Emma Bell, Kevin Zegers, and Shawn Ashmore) wind up stranded on a ski lift. Facing the prospect of being trapped there over the weekend, the trio must come up with a plan of escape. Meanwhile, some wolves down below are getting hungry. During screenings of this horror flick, some audience members were reported to have fainted from the unrelenting tension.

Movies are popular all over the world. The popularity among the people has a million of reasons particularly the ones regarding entertainment, showcasing talent, showing people cultures, stories they never ever had heard of or seen before.
Movies are source of emotions. They depict sadness, drama, comedy, action, horror, literature etc. before movies were made people used to pass on stories to their younger generations by the means of telling stories, these stories used to pass on from generation to generation but then came photographs like a great man said a single photograph can say a million words they were a great source of information and people loved them very much but as human nature doesn't satisfy easily it has hunger for more and more thus movies were born.
The fact you may not be aware of is that the first movie got it's inspiration from a book with similar pictures on each page but with slight deformations when a child was playing with that book a man noticed the movement the drawn body was making thus he concluded that if in a short time period many pictures were made to pass in front of our eyes, we are unable to differentiate the pictures and it appeared to us as if there was a live movement in front of us.
Then the revolution started and it grew like forest fire and in no time the whole world became victim to this sweet thing called movies.
Then movie stars came to be looked upon as god n goddesses. I would like to cite examples of great movies like the ones of Charlie-Chaplin which made even the worst sufferer laugh till he/she cried, then there were the movies of Bruce-lee and Jackie Chan who inspired a lot if young fellows to take up self-defense classes, then came movies about real incidents like pearl harbor and titanic which made people aware of truth. Then again movies regarding aliens and after life e.g. extra terrestrials, exorcists offered a great deal of knowledge. Till date movies continue to win our hearts and entertain us, thus a world without movies is unimaginable.

A Brief History of Bollywood Horror Movies
Bollywood has dabbled with the horror genre and has come up with some pretty good movies through the decades. From making unique movies, to depending on gore and risque sequences to finally understanding what horror is all about; the scream market in India has definitely matured. Here is a brief history of Bollywood Horror movies.
The first Indian horror movie was made by Kamal Amrohi, and starred Ashok Kumar and Madhubala. Named 'Mahal', which can be translated into 'Palace' in English, the movie was based on reincarnation - a concept that is well entrenched into the Indian mindset. This movie is supposed to be ground breaking one for Bollywood and is known to have launched many a career. Ashok Kumar, Madhubala and the singer Lata Mangeshkar owe much of their superstardom to Mahal.
The sixties and the seventies saw some pretty good Bollywood horror movies, and most of them spoke about reincarnation, haunted houses etc. This genre was studded with superhit movies like Gumnaam (without a name), Bees Saal Baad (Twenty Years Hence) and of course, Madhumati.
All this changed with Rajkumar Kohli's Nagin (The Female Snake) in 1976, which once again changed the very concept of Bollywood horror movies. This star studded movie was a box office hit, which made way for Jaani Dushman (Nemesis) by Rajkumar Kohli.
The horror genre became slapstick and a lucrative one, and the intelligent stories like Madhumati and Bees Saal Baad were replaced with template movies, wherein a couple or a group of youngsters would have to camp in a old mansion, only to find that it is haunted. This was the staple of Ramsay Brothers, who made quite a few movies on the premise. The Ramsay Brothers were the staple of the horror genre for at least a decade, and many of their movies, like Veerana (The Desolate Area), Purana Mandir (Old Temple) and Do Gaz Zameen Ke Neeche (Beneath the Ground) have a cult following even today in the DVD market.
However, the Indian audience became mature enough to reject slapstick and risqu by the nineties, and the Ramsay brand of horror had a dwindling following - and it was then that a little known director named Ram Gopal Varma changed the way Bollywood horror movies were made. His Raat (The Night) was one of the few Indian horror movies that did not have the by now cliched paper mache makeup, or the squirting of blood, etc. His 'Raat' was one of the few atmosphere horror movies and is still considered to be one of the best horror movies ever made.
Ram Gopal Varma later on made several movies in the horror and crime genre and has achieved mixed success in his movies. However, even today, people consider him to be a horror film maker first and a crime saga maker second.

Synopsis
After a group of hapless National Guard troops fails a training exercise, their commanding officer (Flex Alexander, SNAKES ON A PLANE) orders them to deliver supplies to some scientists in Yuma Flats, New Mexico. The mutants from the first film (the unfortunate victims who live on nuclear testing ground) have returned to terrorise a group of Department of Defence researchers. The unlucky soldiers happen upon the remains of their camp (and its denizens), and the horrors begin. The inbred family of cannibals stalks the soldiers and picks them off, one by one, in gruesome fashion. Alejandre Aja (HIGH TENSION) directed the 2006 remake, but this sequel replaces Aja with Martin Weisz, whose first feature, ROHTENBERG, was banned in his native Germany. Written by genre master Wes Craven and his son Jonathan, THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2 is a sequel to the remake of Craven’s original 1977 film. It’s no coincidence that Craven changed this sequel’s victims from a band of motorcyclists to a group of unlucky soldiers, giving the film political undertones. For a brief moment, this film addresses the idea that war may be the worst kind of horror, even when it’s judged against mutant cannibals.

The slasher film all but died with the release of Scream (1996). From that point on, the genre became populated with slick studio productions starring the latest round of teen television stars, while gore and terror all but disappeared. Hatchet director Adam green clearly longs for the early days of the VCR, when films like Madman (1982), The Burning (1981), and The Prowler (1981) gave us psycho killers with grudges, deformities, and axes to grind—usually very graphically against the heads of promiscuous teens.
Hatchet's killer is Victor Crowley, a grossly misshapen New Orleans bayou boogeyman who suffered an accidental hatchet to the face when his father tried to rescue him from a fire. When broken-hearted college boy Ben (Joel Moore) ditches his friends during a pre-Katrina Mardi Gras in favour of a cheesy Haunted Swamp tour, he finds himself on a boat full of misfits with an inexperienced tour guide (Perry Shen) just in from Detroit. Soon, the boat is sinking, and the passengers who also include an aspiring porn director and his two stars, a middle-aged couple, and a young woman with a vendetta against Crowley--come face-to-face with the monstrous killer.
Green clearly isn't against mixing humour in with his scares---Hatchet is rather liberal with laughs and has a generally light-hearted tone. But when the gore comes in, it's strong and noxious---though usually very dimly lit, this is messy stuff. He also shows his appreciation for horror film history by giving cameos to Robert Freddy Krueger England and Tony Candyman Todd and casting Kane Jason Voorhees Hodder as Crowley. Hatchet is a lively, funny, and reverent 1980’s-style gore film that is certain to get a roomful of gorehounds howling with approval.

Adam Green's Hatchet is a goofy, gory gas that pays tribute to the slasher boom of the 1980s by placing more hapless teens in the path of an indestructible maniac. Said killer is Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder, Jason in many of the later Friday the 13th entries), a deformed Louisiana swamp dweller who returns from an apparent fiery death to lay waste to a mixed bag of tourists and Mardi Gras revelers who've wandered into his turf on a "haunted swamp" tour. Hatchet doesn't exactly surpass the movies it's spoofing; Green's characters are dopey ciphers, and Crowley's indiscriminate killing spree negates his sympathetic origins. But the dialogue is glib and the performances funny (especially Parry Shen as the tour's unlikely guide and Joel David Moore as the lovelorn hero), and '80s horror aficionados will appreciate John Carl Buechler's outrageously gross effects (which get more screen time in this unrated cut). There are also cameos by genre vets Robert Englund and Tony Todd, as well as Joshua Leonard from The Blair Witch Project. -- Paul Gaita

Following her mysterious behaviour at the conclusion of Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, young Jamie (Danielle Harris) is committed to the psychiatric care of Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence). Meanwhile, Michael Myers is presumed dead following a shoot-out with the Haddonfield Police and a fatal fall down a mineshaft entrance. A well-meaning derelict nurses Michael back to health, and one year later he is back to kill again! Starting around Halloween 4, that masked nut Michael Myers stopped chasing his sister (played by Jamie Lee Curtis in the first and second films, as well as Halloween H20) and went after his niece. Now he's chasing her around again in part 5, but it's a lot of other people who die in the process. Donald Pleasence continues his mad-doctor bit from the earlier movies, Danielle Harris is the unfortunate relation, and Donald L. Shanks plays the monster. The film is an improvement on parts 2 and 4 (part 3 having nothing to do with Michael Myers), but it still amounts to routine slaughter with none of John Carpenter's stylistic brilliance from the original movie. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

Halloween 5 is slightly better than Halloween 4 in the fact that we see a bit more of Micheal and we get a few more gory killing scenes like with the scissors. The movie uses some more creepy scenes like in the barn house and the Myers house, it may not look the same as the first but it's still creepy. The other scene is the car chase where Micheal is driving after Jamie with the theme music playing that always creeps me out. The Man in Black was another interesting character but sadly we don't enough of him or learn his story until Halloween 6 when his character is revealed, also that symbol that is on Micheal and the Man In Black is also revealed in part 6. A good sequel to the Halloween franchise. --imdb

but it is just 4 purely because its a remake of a 5 star movie!
this film doesn't take itself seriously AT ALL not for a second very fast paced alot of celebrity teens (who are actually approaching 30) i watched this at fright fest a year ago today and just spotted this coming out soon cannot wait!
fun gore, fun gags a story that was so stupid you made me laugh too the movie is just an excuse to have hot female demons young girls partying and alot of gore and cheap shocks but its what makes it great!
If you enjoy whacky over the top horror that was never meant to be serious like alot of 80s movies pick this up!

Synopsis
Based on the book AN AMERICAN HAUNTING by Brent Monahan, this horror movie details a ghost story dating back to 1817 Tennessee. Inspired by manuscripts documenting the only spirit-caused death in U.S. history, the film stars accomplished actors Sissy Spacek and Donald Sutherland as the mother and father of Betsy Bell (Rachel Hurd-Wood), an adolescent girl tormented by a mysterious spirit haunting the Bell family home. The spirit is thought to have been sent by Mrs. Batts, a witchlike neighbour who--after having a bitter dispute over property rights with Betsy’s father, John Bell--put a curse on John and his daughter. Even though John Bell was the one at fault, it is his daughter who bears the heaviest burden of this spell, being thrown about her room nightly, slapped, and even sexually abused by the mystical force in question. Most of the film takes place in the home, where Betsy’s parents, a local priest, and a local schoolteacher (with whom she has a flirtatious relationship) try their best to exorcise the demon away. While the film never fully explains what the spirit is or where it came from, it does propose one disturbing theory near the end that involves the nature of young female sexuality, echoing the theme of CARRIE, which also starred Sissy Spacek. But this theme is only vaguely hinted at as the story unravels.

"Yes, my friends. There is no end to man's inhumanity to man."
Ain't dat da' truth, Ruth! While this may not be as downright creepy as a few other Amicus anthology creep-fests it is certainly not what "May West" described! I don't know which film he/she was watching, but in this film a well-disguised group of creepy sociopaths enter the Carny sideshow tent of a flagrantly creepy "Dr.Diabolo", (one of the many names for "Satan"), and following his "regular performance" they're each given the opportunity to pay for a glance into their future, (* "Diabolo" burns the cash directly after collecting it!) But it's all just a "forewarning" of the inner evil that lurks within their hearts, and souls, and minds. The evil they've all managed to keep hidden from the rest of the world, (as all sociopaths do with a lifetime of acquired skills!) So, "Diabolo" is actually giving them an opportunity to escape their fate of "torture" in his "garden" at a later date by changing their vile and pernicious ways today! And that's a very very high-minded concept. Plus, you get the brilliant "badman" Burgess, as always, adding his signature verbal underlines to each line and every word delivered, causing one to listen up and listen closely, (unless a Nimrod with A.D.D. is the one allegedly doing the listening!) Take my word for it, while "Torture Garden" may indeed be on the lighter side of Robert Bloch's gothic horror writer's bag o' tricks, it is not "RUBBISH"!!!!!! BTW: "M.A.", the "cat" wasn't the evil one, (or even the point), of that story. Nor was it the "piano" doing the dirty deed. Nor were Cushing and Palance "fighting over the works of Poe". Nor, in fact, was anything you mentioned in your "review" actually going on in the film at all! I'd say you need to "review" your intelligence level, perception abilities, and audio/visual faculties, then "re-view" it with a new mindset. But please, pay attention this time... cause the Devil is in the details!

An enjoyable divertissment, a classic horror episodes connected by a frame in which Dr. Diabolo (not Diablo) with hypnosis does come out of all those involved in the darkness of the soul, their piu'recondite and various incoffessate aspirazioni.Dei the best episodes are the first (a kind of reinterpretation of "The Black Cat" Poe-contaminated mixture of witchcraft), a beautiful example of psychological horror and the last one with Jack Palance and Peter Cushing against each other in parts of two manic collectors Poe whose history finira'molto evil, weak, despite what the other two jerk face of the piano in a couple of occasions.
Certainly not memorable but well directed and well staged by a famous director of photography ... nice horror anthology, even if you forget 5 minutes after "the end".
Terror and humour
Interesting film about the devil and a group of lost souls. The brief cases are very atractive, and Burgess Meredith -as Satan- is so efective!

From yet another derivative science fiction novel by Michael Crichton comes this equally derivative and flaccid movie, in which three top Hollywood stars struggle to squeeze tension and excitement out of material that doesn't match their talents. You're supposed to find awe and mystery in Crichton's story about a team of scientists and scholars who discover a 300-year-old alien spacecraft deep on the ocean floor, but mostly you feel that this is all much ado about nothing. The exploration team consists of a psychologist (Dustin Hoffman), mathematician (Samuel L. Jackson), biochemist (Sharon Stone), and an astrophysicist (Liev Schreiber), and when they enter the alien ship they discover a mysterious sphere inside. What they don't know is that the sphere has the power to manipulate their thoughts and perceptions, and before long the scientists' undersea habitat is a veritable haunted house of frightening visions and creeping paranoia. Who can be trusted? What is the sphere's purpose, and why is it on the ocean floor? Sphere makes some attempt to answer these questions, but the film is a mess, and it leads to one of the most anticlimactic endings of any science fiction film ever made. There are moments of high intensity and psychological suspense, and the stellar cast works hard to boost the talky screenplay. But it's clear that this was a hurried production (Hoffman and director Barry Levinson made Wag the Dog during an extended production delay), and as a result Sphere looks and feels like a film that wasn't quite ready for the cameras. Boxing Clever?
A facially disfigured man named Arlington Steward (played by the impressive Langella) turns up at a young couple's house and offers them a choice: ignore the box he had previously delivered, or open the box with a key, hit a red button and they will receive 1,000,000 dollars tax free. The catch is that if they push the red button, someone somewhere will die. Not something that most of us will experience in our lives I would imagine.
Its all set in the seventies and as a period piece it delivers very well. The ethical maze the couple go through is interesting, but it all gets a bit confusing when the film attempts to explain Mr Steward's modus operandi (something to do with being hit by lightening and acting as an agent for some unspecified superiors), especially as there are vague but apparently meaningless references to the Viking probe's mission to Mars.
Its quite a clever story, but at the time of watching it I saw too many imperfections to completely wow me. That said, I kept thinking about it time and again over several days and that counts for a lot for a movie these days.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer had been the creation of Joss Whedon when he first saw the movie in 1992 and thought about turning into a TV series. When it had been released first in 1997, Buffy managed to instantly grab up many loyal fans with its interesting episodes which enjoyed the appreciation of the general audience as well as critical acclaims. During its run on the television, the series managed to get nominated for Emmy's 14 times and the series managed to remain on air for seven years.
However, the show only won two Emmy's from its 14 nominations but there is no doubt about the success of the show. The long run of the series on the TV, its soaring sales of DVD boxed sets of Buffy Seasons 1-7 and its large and loyal fan base all goes to prove the fame of the series.
The lead role of Buffy is played by Sarah Michelle Gellar who is a teenage girl. Buffy is the chosen one and has the ability to stand up and fight against vampires, demons and evil spirits. During the series her friends are Xandar Harris, played by Nicholas Brendon and Willow Rosenberg, played by Alyson Hannigan. Both of her friends come to know about her special abilities and help her get closer to her mission of fighting against vampires. Buffy's watcher is Rupert Giles, played by Anthony Steward Head who is the librarian at her high school.
The first season itself has several interesting episodes where Buffy and her mother move to Sunnydale and Buffy comes to know from the librarian that the town is about to witness a powerful vampire. In the first season, her powers and abilities are revealed to her friends and the three of them then work together to fight against the Vampire. Throughout the next seasons there are several interesting episodes and weird happenings in Sunnydale where Buffy goes through a personality change and the vampires in Sunnydale plan to bring back their Master Vampire. The past of the librarian is revealed and many other problems occur in Sunnydale which Buffy must try to get rid of.
Over the last season the episodes show that the students of her school blame Buffy for not being able to protect them properly. The forces of evil are rising and Dawn and Buffy rise to the occasion to fight against them. Another character emerges through the series, Amanda who is also portrayed to be the chosen one and it is only in the last season that they come to know of her faith.

I always try to watch one horror movie a day the entire month of October so I hope these thirty one suggestions come in handy. Naturally, this is a very short list as there are thousands of horror movies that are more than worthy for viewing on Halloween or any time of the year. I always try to watch one horror movie a day the entire month of October so I hope these thirty one suggestions come in handy. If you don't have an account to rent movies and don't have the money to buy a lot of DVD's there are a few networks running horror films everyday so be sure to check your listings. Hopefully you get as much enjoyment out of these movies as I do. Stay scared!

The Top Ten Horror Movies Ever Made
If you are a horror movie lover, you may want to know the top ten horror movies ever made. It is hard to compile a list of the top ten horror movies as there have been so many good ones, but these are definitely the top picks.
Hellraiser comes in at number ten. This movie is definitely a shocker and has many parts that make you jump out of your seat. This movie is definitely not for the squeamish, but if you like horror movies you will love this one.
In at number nine is The Evil Dead. Although there are some comedic parts in this movie, it is definitely a horror flick. There is a lot of decapitation and dismemberment in this movie. Again, if you have a weak stomach this may not be the best movie for you to watch. There is a lot of blood and gore and it is truly the ultimate in grossness.
At number eight is Dawn of the Dead. There is actually the original which was made in 1978 and then the remake, both which are incredible scary. The original will always be a classic and was super scary and gross.
Freddy Krueger always has to make the list on any top horror movie ranking. A Nightmare on Elm Street is pretty much the scariest Krueger movie to date and makes this list at number seven. There were a ton of sequels after this movie but as with most horror movies, the original still takes the cake. Krueger's gruesome personality and nail slashing killings make this movie gory and terrifying.
For number six it is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Another horror flick that had a recent remake, this movie well deserves its place on the list. The ultimate in grindhouse entertainment, this flick is known by pretty well everyone by the crazy chainsaw carrying criminal living in Texas.
Sigourney Weaver made the number five movie a top pick-Alien. This movie can't get much grosser, with aliens popping out of people's stomachs. The special effects and the sets in this movie are divine and really make it worth the watch. The movie is about a crew who flies a ship and ends up having an alien come onboard. Again, there are many sequels to this movie but these sequels actually aren't all that bad. The recent Alien Vs Predator is one of the latest sequels and is definitely worth seeing.
Coming in at number four is Halloween and this movie was hard just to put at number four. It is terrifying in every sense of the word and after you watch it you will be looking around you wherever you go thinking you see Michael Myer's creepy white masked face.
The Thing is number three, and considering this thing can do anything from grow spider legs and stretch its head it is pretty obvious why it makes this list.
In second place it is Videodrome which really gives you the shivers when you watch it. Created by David Cronenberg, the genius behind Shivers, The Brood and Scanners.
Jack Nicholson makes The Shining number one, with his brilliant acting as a lunatic.

Night Watch is that rare film that--like The Matrix--is not only visually dazzling but creates an intriguing, seductive, and thrilling alternative world. A young man named Anton, after dabbling in black magic to bring back the wife who left him, discovers that the world is populated by fantastical Others (vampires, shape-shifters, witches, and more) who have chosen sides--Light or Dark--in an epic battle. A truce has been declared; both sides watch the other to ensure the truce is maintained. But a prophecy has predicted that a powerful Other will tilt the balance, and Anton--who is himself an Other--finds himself crucial to the prophecy's fulfillment. There's no question that Night Watch has weaknesses. Numerous plot holes get glossed over by pell-mell pacing, the visual conception of the apocalyptic battle between Light and Dark is curiously pedestrian (a bunch of knights fighting a bunch of guys in fur with swords--what happened to their various powers?), and more--but, much like similar problems with The Matrix, it doesn't matter.
The alternative world Night Watch presents is so rich with possibilities that it takes on a life of its own, both as an imaginative universe and as a vivid metaphor for the moral complexities of our own lives--for example, though the forces of Light claim to be good, their often brutal actions call their virtue into question, and the forces of Dark make some compelling moral arguments on the topic. The movie is so overstuffed with ideas that many don't get fleshed out, but that only contributes to the sense of vitality and unexplored dimensions. Even the subtitles are used creatively. In 2004, a low-budget horror film about a man who put people with moral failings into grisly, murderous situations became a huge hit. In 2005, the sequel scored again, upping the body count and the terror. In 2006, the franchise continued, with plenty of gore as well as an emotional story line that delved into the psychological makeup of the main characters. As SAW II concluded, Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) was dying. But that doesn't mean his penchant for playing games of torture and violence is ending. A stylish sequel though inferior to its classic predecessor, Bill Condon's Candyman 2: Farewell to the Flesh deepens our knowledge of what made the murdered Daniel Robitaille turn into the monster that haunts dreams and mirrors. But some of it is still pretty routine: schoolteacher Annie takes a long time to connect her family's plantation-owning past and her own artistic talent with the legend, and is far too ready to say the Candyman's name five times in a mirror to debunk her pupils' fears.
The setting--New Orleans in Carnival time with a disc jockey whimsically reminding us that Carnival is the last farewell to pleasure before the rigours of Lent--and the atmospheric score by Philip Glass give the film some of its class. Tony Todd, who returns as the Candyman, gives the monstrous spectre with a hook for a hand a quiet dignity and sadness which impresses. His life was torn agonisingly from him and he is mad for vengeance, yet he has an artistic temperament and loved Annie's kinswoman Caroline. Condon captures an attractive elegiac tone in much of this, as well as moments of brutal horror.
On the DVD: Candyman 2 is presented in widescreen 1.78:1; there is an attractive crispness to the picture which does real justice to the film's impressive sense of place. The music score comes across well in Dolby Digital stereo. There is a theatrical trailer, but no other features. --Roz Kaveney

Synopsis
The mythical hook-handed Candyman (Tony Todd) returns in this sequel set in New Orleans' French Quarter during Mardi Gras. The Tarrants are an old-money family.
